WISP is for two to twelve people in the same room, sharing one screen by candlelight. It passes from hand to hand. Each person draws a wisp, answers in their own way, and lights another light in a night sky the whole room is building together. There is no app to install on everyone's phone and no one is off in their own corner. The evening is the point.
Why it exists
Most digital play is solo. Everyone bent over their own device, in their own separate little world, in the same room but not really together. WISP is the opposite kind on purpose. It is one screen passed around a circle, so the play happens in the room, out loud, between people, the way a deck of cards or a parlour game always did. The screen is just the candle in the middle of the table.
And because it passes, everyone plays at their own pace and in their own way. A quiet person answers quietly, a bold one performs, and both are right. No two evenings come out the same, because the game only ever holds up a prompt; what fills it is the particular people in that particular room. What you make, only you could have made.
How an evening goes
Take your chairs
Two to twelve souls. Choose a brief sitting, a proper evening or a grand one, then pass the screen to the first player.
Draw a wisp
Tap to draw, read the prompt aloud, answer it your way. Each turn lights another wisp in the room's growing night sky.
Light the sky
When the last card is turned, the sky is lit by your own hands, a constellation only that evening could have made.
Part of a bigger room
WISP is the first thing in muplu's together wing, which is for exactly this: real people, one screen, in the same room. Not everything that lands here will be this gentle. Some together games are made to be shared and unhurried like WISP, and others will be properly competitive, for the rooms that would rather play to win. The one thing they share is that the fun happens between people, not alone on a phone.
