the idea behind it

SCURRY

four cats, four minds, one moonlit kitchen.

In 1980 a maze-chase game conquered the world, and the reason was never the maze. It was the pursuers. Four hunters who LOOKED identical but thought differently: one chased you, one cut you off, one worked the pincer, one couldn't commit. Players felt personalities in about thirty lines of code each, and felt them so strongly the four got names, fan clubs, a hit single. SCURRY is that tradition rebuilt from scratch as a mouse in a midnight kitchen, with everything the last forty-five years taught arcade design layered on top.

The tradition, kept whole

Everything that made the original design immortal is here, retuned but structurally faithful. Four hunter minds: Soot comes straight at you and gets hungrier as the crumbs run out. Slink aims ahead of your nose. Bramble triangulates off Soot to close the pincer. Biscuit is fearless from across the room and bashful up close. The rhythm: cats alternate between prowling and dozing, the dozes shrinking level by level until the hunt never pauses, and every switch makes all four reverse at once, which is the tell. The reversal of power: catnip panics them, and for a shrinking few seconds the hunted is the hunter. The escalation: speed tables, shrinking catnip, bonus treats worth more each level, a difficulty plateau where the game stops getting harder and simply asks you to get better.

What a contemporary one adds

Cornering you can feel

Queue your turn early and the mouse takes the corner the instant it arrives. This buffered pre-turn is the whole skill feel, and it was the first thing machine-tested: a scripted bot runs a twenty-corner tour and must miss nothing with the buffer, and plenty without it.

Being brave pays, per second

Brushing past a hunting cat without touching it scores whisker points and climbs a streak tier. The optimal route through the kitchen is the frightening one, on purpose. When a cat gets truly close, time thickens for a moment so the escape is yours to find. The clock keeps running; drama, never a crutch.

No run is wasted

Crumbs bank into TREATS when the night ends, and the shop opens right where the ache is: a mouse hole that eats the first catch, a crumb magnet, and for the brave, a fifth cat that multiplies everything. The daily kitchen stays pure: no items, same night for everyone.

Four rooms, machine-checked

The kitchen, the pantry, the parlour and the cellar are original mazes from a small foundry that proves every layout is fully connected, perfectly mirrored, and has no dead ends before it is allowed in. Fairness is bot-verified too: a dodging robot must survive long enough, or the game does not ship.

The quiet parts

No account, no ads, nothing following you around. Your best nights and your pantry of TREATS live in your own browser and nowhere else. Nothing here can be bought with money; every item is earned by play, and the daily run refuses items entirely so the test stays honest.
