the idea behind it

MINUTE

how long is a minute in your head?

meet your minute →

Somewhere in you is a clock that has never once been serviced. It runs fast when you are frightened, slow when you are bored, and it melts entirely in a hot shower. MINUTE puts every real clock away and asks that inner one to perform: hold a stone on the screen for what FEELS like ten seconds, then twenty, then thirty, letting go when your own tide says it is time. Then it tells you the one number the whole sitting was for: how long your minute actually is.

Why it exists

The inside wing plays with the strange machinery of minds, and time perception is the strangest machine in the building: everyone owns one, nobody has calibrated theirs, and no two agree. Most people's inner minute misses sixty seconds by a comfortable margin, and which side it misses on says something gentle and funny about the speed they move through the world at. The toy remembers your past minutes in your own browser, so you can watch your tide drift from one visit to the next. A rushed Tuesday minute and a slow Sunday minute are rarely the same length, and that is the pleasure of it.

Nothing keeps a beat

The stone's glow drifts on deliberately mismatched curves, so there is no pulse, no rhythm, and nothing to secretly count along to. Counting is the clock talking. The toy wants the tide.

A blink is not a guess

Let go almost immediately and the round gently asks again. The mirror only works if you actually look in it.

A mirror, not a measurement

Like INKBLOT next door: carnival rules. Nothing here is a test, a score or a diagnosis of anything. It is a number to laugh about and compare over dinner, which is exactly what the share line is for.

The quiet parts

Your minutes live in your own browser and nowhere else. No account, no ads, no tracking, and nothing that follows you around afterwards, except possibly the suspicion that your four o'clock meetings are longer than the clock claims.
