the idea behind it

Gather

a digital world of snow and a pair of hands, made so a very small child can just play.

let them play →

Gather is snow and a pair of hands. There is nothing to win here, so there is no way to lose. A child pushes the snow about and it stays wherever they shove it. Hold still, and the snow gathers into a ball under their hand. Drag that ball and it grows, the way rolling snow really does. Let go while the hand is still moving, and it flies.

Why it exists

Almost everything made for small children on a screen wants something from them: a score to chase, a level to clear, a star for doing it the right way, a friend to keep up with. Gather wants nothing. It is the digital version of being handed a patch of snow, or a bucket of sand, and simply left to it. The child is not solving the toy. They are making their own play inside it, and then making it again differently, which is the kind of play that actually grows a young mind.

Underneath the softness it is real physics. Snow gathers, rolls, grows, balances and falls the way the real thing does, so a child is quietly learning weight, momentum, cause and effect, and how their own hand moving in space changes the world in front of them. They are building spatial sense and motor control, not because the toy is testing them, but because that is what play is for.

What your child can do

Push it about

A whole hand works better than one finger, and the snow stays wherever they put it.

Gather a ball

Hold still and the snow gathers under their hand. Drag it and it grows, just like rolling real snow. Let go while moving and it flies.

Build and topple

Rest a ball gently on a bigger one and it sits there. Two together get a face. Or knock it all down and start again. Nothing is ever wrong.

For the grown-up

There is no account, no signup, nothing to buy, no ads and nothing following your child around. It works on any screen. You can hand it over and sit beside them, or leave them to it, and there is no way for them to reach anything they should not. When they are done, they are done. Nothing is waiting to pull them back.

Gather has a sunny twin, Sandcastle, which is the very same toy made of warm beach sand instead of snow.
