the idea behind it

FACES

there have always been faces in the wallpaper.

visit the fire →

Your brain finds faces everywhere: plugs, clouds, the fronts of cars, a slice of toast that made the news. The tendency is called pareidolia and it is not a glitch; a mind built to never miss a face would rather see a thousand false ones than skip a real one. FACES is a wall of soft shapes and one mechanic: wherever you tap, you were right.

Why it exists

Streaks are the most powerful retention machine ever built, and most apps use them cruelly: miss a day and the number you grew for months dies in front of you. EMBER takes the machine and removes the cruelty. Your total days NEVER reset and your fire’s stage never regresses. Miss a day and you find coals, dimmer, patient, and one gentle blow from flame. The fire is glad you came back. That is the entire redesign: a streak that works by warmth instead of threat.

One visit is the food

Opening the page on a new day feeds the fire. The streak counts consecutive days for pride, but the GROWTH counts every day you ever came, so nothing you built can be taken from you.

Hold to blow, one log a day

Holding the screen blows the flame up bright and sends embers climbing. The daily log is a small ceremony: it settles in, throws sparks, and burns tall for the rest of your visit.

The coals hold on

A missed day, or a missed week, dims the fire to embers and nothing more. It says so plainly when you return, and one breath brings it back.

The quiet parts

No account, no ads; your agreed faces live in your browser and are released at midnight when the wallpaper changes. Nothing in this room measures, diagnoses, or knows anything about you; it is a toy about how minds wobble, made with affection for the wobble.
